Dee Hall

Dee Hall: Take a step out of the box today. We are all thankful for many things, a roof over our head, food on the table, those kind of things. But in the big scheme they are just that....things. They can all be replaced. Lets put a spin on it today. WHO are you thankful for? Is it a friend who stops by to make you smile and invite you to lunch (Stephanie Faber) ? Is it someone far away that messages you in the mornings to debate what defines a 'good' morning (Kenny Smith) ? How about someone you see all the time that silently supports and empowers you just by their mere presence no matter what kind of mood you're in (Sherry Bosworth, Daryn Deem, Sonia Raines)? Perhaps its someone who's name makes you smile because of their humor and way with words (Chuck Coleman, Mark Poling, Jeff Deem, Chuck Boggess, Todd Southall) or is it a similar spirit and heart (Angie Terrio, Melissa Dailey, Amanda Adams Slaven, Sheila Harrison), someone you like to fight with (James Terrio) , family (Raven Hall) ,new friends (Steve Pearson, Bonita Pearson) , old friends (Terry Ocheltree, Aaron and Whitney Cutright, Dianne Lowry, John Stanley, Brandon Gress)? Tell them today that you are thankful for them. That they cannot be replaced in any way or fashion in your life. (If your name was not mentioned, please take no offense, you ARE on my list of people to be thankful for , for your own unique reasons) Just lean over the green bean casserole and whisper to them....Thank you. After all, how good would that turkey and dressing taste if you were the only one there to eat it? Happy Thanksgiving, my friends. I wish the world for all of you...and then some.

James Shirick Green: Goodmorning and Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Facebook family and friends. Today is the day our American ancestors took to celebrate everything that they were thankful for and to bridge the gap between cultures. But please don't forgot the history of the holiday and also those of my fellow servicemembers who are deployed in austere locations that cannot be with the ones whom they are thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Fran Petrowski

891729980857660 Fran Petrowski: Untitled Album     Compiled by MSgt Rob Wilkins, USAF, Ret.

Today, we recognize the heroic efforts of retired Air Force Colonel and Medal of Honor Recipient, James P. Fleming, who on 26 Nov 1968, risked his life to save a team of Army Green Berets, pinned down by enemy fire, near Duc Co, Republic of Vietnam.

His Medal of Honor citation reads:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Capt. Fleming (then 1st Lt.) distinguished himself as the Aircraft Commander of a UH-1F transport Helicopter. Capt. Fleming went to the aid of a 6-man special forces long range reconnaissance patrol that was in danger of being overrun by a large, heavily armed hostile force.

Despite the knowledge that 1 helicopter had been downed by intense hostile fire, Capt. Fleming descended, and balanced his helicopter on a river bank with the tail boom hanging over open water.

The patrol could not penetrate to the landing site and he was forced to withdraw. Dangerously low on fuel, Capt. Fleming repeated his original landing maneuver.

Disregarding his own safety, he remained in this exposed position. Hostile fire crashed through his windscreen as the patrol boarded his helicopter. Capt. Fleming made a successful takeoff through a barrage of hostile fire and recovered safely at a forward base.

Capt. Fleming's profound concern for his fellowmen, and at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Air Force and reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of his country.

Thank you for your service, sir.

Welcome home!
