The Hunting Of The Snark - Royal Albert Hall 1987 Oh WOW! I just watched the epic Hunting of the Snark by Mike Batts, such a flash-back to the past! My Stevie and I enjoyed this blast from the past. Brilliant performance! How else here remembers this musical, and was it as significant and meaningful to you as it was to us? Here's the full performance with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKitp2gmRas In 1987 Mike Batt recorded this concert of the early stage album of his "Snark" project. This is not a film of the eventual 1991 West End show, which was muc...

Dawn Vanessa Dupler: So there are 2 songs that I really love that I've told everyone that when my time comes some day, that I want played at my funeral which are Peaceful Easy Feeling by the Eagles & Going to California by Led Zeppelin. So tonite I get the bright idea that I'd like to get a ringtone of Going To California on my phone to cheer me up. I call and set up an account, pay for it & set it up which takes me an hour to figure out-have my Mom call me to listen to it & it's The London 'Freaking' Philharmonic Orchestra playing the song!!!! Frickin elevator music!!!! This is my life. Just when you think you might get a little joy in ur life, once again the fickle finger of fate is shoved right up my a** again. Oh well. It could have been worse I guess. It could have been Burle Ives singing it.

Wrocław Philharmonic Choir
The Words Painted with Sound
Founded in 2006, the Wrocław Philharmonic Choir has established itself as one of Poland’s leading choral ensembles. Thanks to its rich and varied repertoire, which includes works from the Renaissance to the contemporary, the ensemble has performed at the legendary BBC Proms in London, the Salle Pleyel in Paris, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and Gent Festival van Vlaanderen.
The choir’s performance in New Haven, “The Words Painted with Sound,” is a verbal-musical journey into the recesses of the human soul. The music—using the meditations of Polish poets dressed in the beautiful music of Polish composers—explores the meaning of earthly existence, plumbing different stages of life and different states of mind.
Save 10% on any available seat for Wroclaw Philharmonic Choir on June 26 at 8pm. Order online, by phone (888.ART.IDEA), or at the Shubert Theatre Box Office, 247 College St, New Haven, and mention code WRO. Tickets and more information at: http://artidea.org/event/2013/1393

Richard Wagner 1813-2013:
From Patrice Chéreau's landmark Bayreuth production of "Der Ring des Nibelungen," filmed in 1980. Sieglinde: Jeannine Altmeyer Siegmund: Peter Hofmann Orches...

The Hartt School: Hartt alumnus Peter Boyer just conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra in recording sessions at Abbey Road Studio One, recording nearly hour of music, including his Symphony No. 1 and four other works, for his upcoming album on Naxos.

Peter Boyer:
Yesterday was one of the most rewarding days of my musical life, and the rewarding conclusion of a long journey of composing and planning. It was my privilege to conduct the London Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the most extraordinary ensembles. In the course of three sessions over a single day and evening at Abbey Road Studio One, we recorded nearly an hour of music, including my Symphony No. 1 and four other works, for my upcoming album on Naxos. The LPO are simply astounding, and at a few points on the podium, the beauty of the music they were making took my breath away, and I had to remember to "come back down to earth" and focus on what I was doing! Those moments will remain with me, and remind me of the awesome communicative power of music.
I'm grateful for the top-notch music production team I had in producer Tim Handley and Abbey Road engineer Jonathan Allen, to the LPO administration, and to Ursula for constant support and encouragement. I was also delighted to have video producer Simon Wall and photographer Benjamin Ealovega documenting the event. Here are a few of Ben's terrific photos. The video and more photos will be forthcoming, and please stay tuned for the Naxos release!

Ramachandran Samraj:
Ilayaraja also recorded non-film albums, such as "How to Name It" and "Nothing But Wind," which were well-received in India and abroad. In 1993, he wrote a symphony for the London Philharmonic Orchestra in an amazing one-month span. To many people who know him, Raja represents more than his music. He is a mark of great achievement that is possible by hard work, yet he is seen in most of his interviews as talking very philosophically. He is very much attracted by the philosophy of Ramana Maharishi of Thiruvanna Malai, who lived in the early 20th Century. Raja once referred to Ramana as "our Zen master."
