Apparently I just can't deal with rush-hour-subway-packed crowds at concerts any more. Shooting pains in my ankle from having my recovering achilles kicked twice didn't help.
A little Go-Gos has always gone a long way for me so it wasn't surprising that I thought the best songs were Mad About You (a Belinda Carlyle hit) and Cool Places (a song Jane Wiedlin wrote with Sparks.) Their bassist had bizarre slowdowns at times causing a noticeable sputter in the music but they were overall engaged and energetic.
The B-52s, though.... I know I wasn't in a mindset to totally accept whatever they did but to me they sounded and felt like a tribute band. All that's left is the three vocalists (Kate, Cindy, Fred) and the band arrangements were missing that quirky spark that used to set them apart. Soulless and mechanical doesn't suit the music.
Fred didn't sound like Fred in any of phrasing, tone, or festive irony. Kate Pierson sounded good and looked great but was cheerleader rah rah rah to an annoying degree. I'm not sure what was going on with Cindy. Didn't feel like she was having any kind of fun.
Maybe it improved after I left but I really did have to leave.
Ah well, now I know. No more crammed dance-floor concerts for me.

I have been dating this woman for more than three years. She has been the best girlfriend so far and I have been planning to propose to her. Recently though, she found out that she has a debilitiating disease that will affect her eyesight. So far, she has had problems seeing and she has always just gone for a stronger eyeglass prescription.
Now, it is getting worse and there is a time she lost vision in one eye for a week. I was there for her and we got through it together. I am OK with her condition and I still want to marry her even if she goes completely blind. The problem is that she is pushing me away. She says I should go and get a ‘normal’ wife because she will drag me down. Help me please.— Peter M.
