Mike Simpson: Sacramento News & Review - Ransom, kidnaps and cool experiments - Bites - Opinions - May 23, 2013     Speaking of the long con, back in February, Bites sent a Public Records Act request in to the Sacramento City Unified School District. The idea is to try and better understand how the Sac city school board, superintendent and staff arrived at the decision to close seven schools.

It seems pretty obvious that much of the thinking and planning leading up to the decision to close the schools had happened out of public view. So Bites asked for relevant memos, emails and the like to shed a little more light.

So far, the district has disclosed next to nothing aside from some boilerplate stuff from the district website. Although the California Public Records Act requires the district to provide an

Deniz Yazici: Why is it that they ask a million questions when reinstalling and reactivating or reauthorizing software. The worst question is "why didn't you deauthorize the licence before reformatting your drive?". My snappy answer to their stupid question was "If the drive failed and the o/s is toast how can I do what you ask since the machine won't start". They come back with the typical boilerplate answer "Don't do it again!". Dumb muthers!

Unitarian Universalist Christians

Unitarian Universalist Christians: We hold these following truths as a tentative boilerplate for faith and philosophical discussion:

1. In the event of a conflict between the ethos of Jesus and that of Paul (or any other character in the bible), precedent should be given to the words and intent of Jesus.
2. The oldest gospel, the Gospel of Mark, is most likely to contain the authentic meaning and original intent of Jesus' teaching
3. Jesus was a sage of a high-level of consciousness and compassion
4. Jesus had great insight into the universe and purpose of same, but he was not the only source of such information.
5. Everyone is welcome and everyone can contribute, and everyone's life is valid
6. What we do is far more important than what we believe
7. There are no absolutes, because absolutes are a category of reason, and God is beyond reason and logic
8. It is noble to strive for peace and justice
9. It is noble to live in harmony with the earth to the extent that we can in our current state of ignorance
10. Life is a journey that goes on forever, not a destination

Kristal K'Sera: "Life is short, life is very short. I like life. I like it! I feel like even if it ends up being short, I got lucky to get to have it because life is an amazing gift when you think about what you get with a basic life. Not even a particularly lucky life, or a healthy life. If you have a life, here is your boilerplate deal with life...

This is basic cable what you get, when you get life. YOU GET TO BE ON EARTH! First of all, oh my god, what a location!

This is Earth, and for trillions of miles in every direction it fucking sucks so bad. It’s so shitty that your eyes bolt out of your head, because it sucks so bad. You get to be on Earth and look at shit, as long as you’re not blind or whatever it is. You get to be here, you get to eat food. You get to put bacon in your mouth. I mean, when you have bacon in your mouth, it doesn't matter who's President or anything, you just ahh, ahhhh!!!

Every time I’m eating bacon I think I could die right now and I mean it, that’s how good life is. You get to...You get to f*ck, that’s free! If you’re smart, that comes with it. That’s part of the deal. Where else you’re going to get that deal!?! - Louis CK

Pollychromatic

Pollychromatic: “Children Are Dying”     This is a big long article. It requires you to pay attention.

It's about nutritional injectibles and a shortage crisis that has been ongoing for 2 and a half years that is causing deaths and grave, possibly permanent damage to infants, children, and even some adults who receive injected nutrition.

European specialists are pretty flabbergasted that this is happening in the US, and say they've only seen things like this in the far past or in third world countries.

The hospitals are mostly saying, on record, "no comment," and "hey, we'd pay 50% mark-up to get product," the hospital employees are saying, off record, "people are dying, and we use tremendous amounts of resources to just operate day by day because of this crisis," the manufacturers are saying "the FDA scared our stockholders because they threatened to shut us down for mold growth on walls near the production lines, so we simply shut the line down to concentrate on other drugs," and "GPOs have driven the profits of production too low for us to care to produce," and "visible particulates of glass, metal, and silicon can be filtered out of product at the pharmacy level. If only the FDA weren't so meeeeean!," the FDA is saying, "we send a boilerplate letter that is meant to specifically not scare manufacturers from production to reduce these shortages," and I'm saying "are you fucking kidding me?"

I will be adding a few more details once the prints are made up. - He ended the Iraq War and is winding down in Afghanistan.
- He killed Usama bin Laden, and decimated Al Qaeda's core leadership.
- He wants to try terrorists in civilian courts and close Gitmo, but Congress won't let him.
- He has repaired America’s alliances and restored our standing in the world. America is safer because of Obama.
So why did Mr. Obama give this speech? And why did the White House bill it as a major foreign policy address, the first one of his second term?''''

Steve Hynd: I was going to write a blog post about Obama's national security speech today, but I fell asleep halfway through reading the text - sitting up at the computer. Going by the utter lack of major headlines generated by it, it appears Medea Benjamin's heckling was the most interesting thing about the speech. Joe Vee

Joe Vee: The Importance of Being Prickly     For all the boilerplate about a “special relationship,” Thatcher considered the Reagan administration clueless and inept in the Middle East. She bitterly resented the U.S. invasion of Grenada with no prior warning to London; she hated the way that Washington, or at least Jeane Kirkpatrick, had equivocated between London and Buenos Aires over the Falklands; and she thought Reagan was being played for a patsy by the Russians when he offered Mikhail Gorbachev nuclear disarmament at the Reykjavik summit in 1986.

She might have been wrong there, but still, she whom the Russians themselves had dubbed the Iron Lady had been entirely consistent ever since she told the voters in 1950 that: “We believe in the freedom of the democratic way of life. If we serve that idea faithfully, with tenacity of purpose, we have nothing to fear from Russian communism.” When the Berlin Wall fell, she was entitled to claim outright victory.

William J. Collins Jr

William J. Collins Jr: Boy Scouts approve plan to accept openly gay members     Et Tu BSA? The BSA leadership today has “green lighted” the organizations own demise after over 100 years of molding future leaders with a moral foundation. Those who voted for the change as a conciliatory compromise to avoid appearing ridged, unbending and “unprogressive”, are foolish and naive. Those seeking the change see this as a 1st step not an ends unto itself reach by a mutual compromise. They will not give up until they have completely re-imaged the organization and debased the founding principles of the Boy Scouts of America. One of the advantages of having daughters is that I won't have to explain to a son why he is being pulled from his troop or why he can't earn his Eagle Award like his father. At this point the best response to BSA leadership is to simply turn-off the financial support. There are a lot of other worthy organization I can give to that will respect and honor the values I hold, the values taught to me when I was a scout. Still very sad in deed, no one really wins we are just tearing down the foundations of society.

Adam Messinger

Adam Messinger: Alice Eve Strips, Benedict Cumberbatch Showers And Devin Loses His Man Card     CONTAINS STAR TREK SPOILERS AND FEMINISM

This article does a good job of covering my one lingering beef with the latest Star Trek movie: unlike the first film, which had the burden of introducing everyone, many characters don't get much of a story in the film. And in the case of the women, their abbreviated stories are laden with shallow stereotypes.

Uhura gets a good scene where she's clever and brave, but the majority of her screen time is spent being angry at her boyfriend and picking unprofessional moments to air that anger. Carol Marcus skates dangerously close to being a stereotypical rebellious girl with daddy issues and strips down to her underwear for no obvious reason.

The movie was still a lot of fun, with plenty of TOS call-backs for long-time fans, but it's frustrating to see this kind of retrograde storytelling in what was once a groundbreakingly progressive franchise.

Allison M. Dickson

Allison M. Dickson: Abercrombie & Fitch Issues Another Apology For CEO's Past Comments     Yet another lesson big mouthed business owners need to learn. In the age of the Internet, you can't just say whatever the hell you want without consequences. The ability to organize and boycott a brand is easier and more powerful than ever. People aren't interested in giving their money to companies who don't represent at least somewhat decent values, who take exclusionary and unpopular positions that bolster outdated and harmful mindsets. And if you're going to open your mouth and let a bunch of feces fall out of it, you'd better be prepared to take the blowback, because boilerplate apologies don't do a whole hell of a lot of good. Maybe Mr. Jeffries should have consulted with other big-mouthed idiots like the CEO of Papa John's or Darden Restaurants to see if maybe he should just keep his opinions to himself. Maybe those guys would have advised him that maybe it isn't worth it to be a dick in public. After all, it doesn't only endanger the bottom line. It threatens the way of life of everyone under his employ. But hey, at least these loudmouth douches are keeping people in the PR field busy. I hear it takes a lot of time and money to repair a company's image when a CEO makes a complete ass of him or herself.
