Denise Angel:
Here are five wise sayings (and their takeaways) from familiar authors that’ll help you along the way.
1. “Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” – George Bernard Shaw
Takeaway: Keep an open mind and at least consider other point of views. If you find that someone else has made a good point, don’t be afraid to change your mind and your view of the world.
2. “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” – Ernest Hemingway
Takeaway: Don’t aim to be better than others. Aim to be better than you are today. As long as you’re constantly trying to improve, you’re headed in the right direction.
3. “Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them.” – Albert Einstein
Takeaway: Recognize the difficulties you face and then go out and find new opportunities. Don’t let your limits make you feel like you’re boxed in.
4. “People seldom improve when they have no other model but themselves to copy.” – Oliver Goldsmith
Takeaway: Don’t be content with who you are. Don’t aspire to be the same, but rather learn from others.
5. “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” – Jim Rohn
Takeaway: Changing and becoming a better person isn’t just a quick decision you make for a day. Don’t let it just be a phase. You must continue to remind yourself to improve until it becomes the new normal. Only then will you truly transform yourself.
There you have it. Use these self improvement quotes when you need that extra bit of inspiration to get through the day and come out a better person. With a continual effort and a few reminders here and there, you’ll be well on your way.

Alcohol steals time and your true self
it is true that many great writers have been alcoholics.
Jack Kerouac, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Dylan Thomas died from poor health related to the complications of alcoholism. Ernest Hemingway committed suicide after alcoholism, depression and mental illness. They have all truly suffered for their art.
“alcohol becomes a weapon to kill something inside … a worm that would not die.” Baudelaire of Edgar Allan Poe.

Frank Donadee: I understand that we all have different tastes in art. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and all that. However, in the case of Mr. Travers, movie critic for the Rolling Stone, because his review was so extremely negative, not only do I question his taste, I question his ethics. I can't believe that he really thinks that the Great Gatsby was a "crushing disappointment" or just about the worst movie of the summer. I think that his review was contrived for the purpose of getting attention, not for the purpose of enlightening his readers. What a sham! Mr. Travers should be ashamed of himself for his action discredits his profession, which is already on wobbly ground.
