A veces estoy de acuerdo con Martha Gellhorn... A veces... "Gradualmente he comprendido que las personas se tragan con más facilidad las mentiras que la verdad, como si el sabor de las mentiras fuera más acogedor, más apetitoso: un habito."
Sometimes I agree with you Martha Gellhorn... Some times... "Gradually I came to realize that people will more readily swallow lies than truth, as if the taste of lies was homey, appetizing: a habit."

A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity. It dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path. ~Agatha Christie

My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it. ~Mark Twain

Paulo Saraiva's Photos This incredible photo marks the end of Matador Torero Álvaro Múnera’s career. He collapsed in remorse mid-fight when he realized he was having to prompt this otherwise gentle beast to fight. He went on to become an avid opponent of bullfights. Even grievously wounded by picadors, he did not attack this man.
Torrero Munera is quoted as saying of this moment: “And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence that all animals have in their eyes, and he looked at me with this pleading. It was like a cry for justice, deep down inside of me. I describe it as being like a prayer - because if one confesses, it is hoped, that one is forgiven. I felt like the worst shit on earth.” ANIMAL CRUELTY- der aaye, durust aayey

Thank you to those who knew that another day came to record the day of my birth: June 12. Yep, this girl is 51 – and nope, I didn’t post it anywhere – and yep, it’s all good. But I am going to take this opportunity to use this event to bore you with my silly thoughts as I sit on my back deck on a Friday night after a long work week:
I think we should all write our obituaries (don’t worry, I have no idea when I’m going to die or by what means) while we are:
- young (enough to have some control of our minds)
- old (enough to know what is important)
- drinking (to loosen us up) and
- smoking (my choice is a java cigar -- picture Ernest Hemmingway – although I haven’t been able to get through any of his books, or Martha Gellhorn – I LOVE her writing! (I hope she smoked cigars!!)) (and yes, feel free to drop by with two java’s any time).
I am pretty sure I have all four covered – at least the beer and cigar – so here goes with a first draft:
She drank, she smoked (java’s) and she loved (and would kill for) her kids the most.
Her friends (you know who you are) were also her family and she loved them dearly.
It took her to the age of 50 to not give a F what other people thought of her and the way she lived her life – but she finally got there.
She was thankful for the people who came into her life with love and tried to reciprocate their grace.
She hoped when all was done, she had made a positive difference whether by a smile, a hug or the truth.
(It’s a start – I’d love to read your drafts (written while you are young, old, drinking and smoking!))
HUGS to all!

Timeline Photos Today is the 69th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy during World War II. Female reporters were not officially permitted to cover the invasion, however, Martha Gellhorn tricked an official into allowing her onto a British hospital vessel. She successfully covered the event, but was arrested upon her return and sent to a nurses’ training camp. “War happens to people, one by one. That is really all I have to say and it seems to me I have been saying it forever. Unless they are immediate victims, the majority of mankind behaves as if war was an act of God which could not be prevented; or they behave as if war elsewhere was none of their business. It would be a bitter cosmic joke if we destroy ourselves due to atrophy of the imagination.”

"Voyage to Victory", by Ernest Hemingway, Collier's Weekly, July 22, 1944, pp. 11-13 Today in 1944, 'The Longest Day' 'Saving Private Ryan', Capra's lost damaged images... I won't pic from that compelling archive (too hard). Instead, as he was flourishing in his most over the top public phase, chauvinistically frustrating equally dedicated journalist wife talent Martha Gellhorn, Hemingway penned a good read for 'Colliers' about his riding landing craft on D-Day. If you like his stuff, acquire the compilation 'By-Line'...

Martha Gellhorn, reporter for Colliers and sometime wife of Ernest Hemingway, put the effort of the International Brigades a lot more succinctly than he did.
"They were fighting for us all, against the combined force of European fascism. They deserved our thanks and our respect and got neither."
